108 John Lewis buyers give it 4.9 out of 5, and Pocket-lint gave it full marks. That’s about as close to agreement as these pages get.
The complaints are small. It’s slightly wider than the old model, so people with small hands find it harder to hold one-handed. The standard version also shows ads on the lock screen. You pay extra to remove them, so if that would annoy the person you’re buying for, get the ad-free one.
The best person to give this to is someone who reads a lot of paperbacks and has never had an e-reader, especially an older relative. You can make the text bigger, and with the built-in light they don’t need a lamp. It’s a poor gift for someone who already has a recent Kindle, because they’d be getting almost the same thing again.
